What the Divcom Software-developed application Active Tray aims to do is provide easy access to your documents, applications, drives, screensaver, websites and more. Depending on the tray mode you select, you either get multiple icons in the system tray, or a single icon that provides quick access to files, folders, and so on.

The Active Tray installation file is a lightweight 1.3MB; even on a lousy internet connection, it will take little time for the download to complete. The application can be installed on any Windows edition. During the installation process, through which you are guided by a simple setup wizard, you will get to choose the installation directory, pick if you want a desktop shortcut, and choose if you want Active Tray to automatically run at startup.

To help you get started, a “Welcome to ActiveTray” guide will show up the first time you run the application. It will tell you that you can configure your system tray by adding your favorite programs, documents, folders, web links, special actions, and any other objects. All the things you add can be organized into groups and the groups can be displayed as a menu or launched as a group. To add the things you want, you must access the application’s main window (you can do that by right clicking the Active Tray icon and selecting the “Show Main Window” menu) and then simply drag and drop the things you want to add (there are also menus for adding files, folders, links, and so on). A keyboard shortcut can be added for all the items and groups of items you add.

As mentioned above, you will see one or multiple icons in the system tray depending on the tray mode you pick. In Multi Icon mode, each item has its own icon. In Single Icon mode, you will only see one icon in the System Tray.

You can enjoy the functionality Active Tray has to offer for free for a trial period of 21 days.

With Active Tray you have quick and easy access to files, folders, programs, links, and anything else you want, right from the System Tray.

Pros

Works with any Windows version; simple installation process. Choose between Single and Multi Icon display mode. Easy access to your favorite programs, documents, folders, web links, special action, and any other objects. Create and launch groups of files/folders/programs/etc. Assign keyboard shortcuts to the items you add to Active Tray. Password protect access to Active Tray.

Cons
